• Bio Robert-Jan Quené •
Robert-Jan was born in Nairobi, Kenya and moved to the Netherlands when he was 10 years old. He received his Masters Degree in Plant Breeding from the Agriculture University in Wageningen, the Netherlands. In 1991 he moved to Minnesota to work on his Ph.D in Plant Breeding at the University of Minnesota. After he graduated he worked for 16 years as an orchid breeder and was in charge of the orchid lab at Orchids Limited, in Plymouth, Minnesota, owned by Jerry and Yoko Fischer. During that time period he created and registered over 250 new orchid hybrids, and multiple of his hybrids have won awards from the American Orchid Society. He currently lives in Superior Wisconsin where he still grows orchids on his windowsill, and grows native Cypripediums in his garden. He is however planning on starting his own orchid propagation lab in the near future.
In his presentation he will talk about the Phragmipedium and Paphiopedilum hybrids that he has developed over the years when he worked at Orchids Limited.
