Rollinsford, NH—March 12th and 13th will mark a first ever collaboration between Wentworth Greenhouses, and the NH and Maine Orchid Societies.
Titled An Orchid Celebration the two day show and sale of orchids by members of the NH and Maine Orchid Societies will include lectures about orchids and their care, as well as orchid displays by members, recognitions and awards for best displays and specimens, and free day long clinics titled “Ask The Experts,” where visitors can ask questions about orchids or seek answers to questions about plants they may need help or advice on. Wentworth Greenhouses is serving as host for the two-day event, which will begin on Saturday March 12th at 10:00 am and run through Sunday March 13th ‘til 4 pm.
Saturday’s events begin with the monthly meeting of the Maine and NH Orchid Societies, which will be open to the public. At 12:30 the judging of Members’ tables and orchid displays will take place, then a lecture that will focus on New England native species titled The Orchids of North America, which will be presented by John Mattor at 1 pm. At 2 pm the lecture titled My Favorite Orchids from A to Z by Chuck Wingate will be offered. The last talk on Saturday is at 3 pm. Titled, Basics of Orchid Care and Repotting it will be presented by Daryl Yerdon owner of Kelly’s Korner Orchid Supplies.
A second day of lectures will be offered on Sunday as well, with The Basics of Orchid Care and Repotting repeating at 11:30 am, followed by Orchid Growing Basics at 2 pm by Joe McHale, accredited American Orchid Society Judge. Joe has promised to debunk myths about the difficulty of growing orchids. On going and available to visitors on both days will be an Ask the Experts table where Dick Green, Vice President of the Eastern Maine Orchid Society will be available to answer questions about anyone’s particular plant problems or situation. Visitors to the Celebration are welcome to bring in an orchid from home to discuss with Dick, but are asked to make sure to protect it well from cold weather.
Visiting Vendors also selling, and displaying orchids and orchid related supplies include Crozer Orchids, Kelly’s Korner Orchid Supplies, and Marlow’s Orchids.
